Fire safety ladders: planning to fail

We All Need A Champion

Many people install a fire safety ladder in an upstairs bedroom. This does not mean that they are planning to have their house go up in flames. Quite the contrary: it means that should the unthinkable arise, that family is prepared.

That family, unlike families who do not have a fire safety ladder, is one step ahead. That family most likely rests a bit easier at night knowing that they have a safe exit plan in the event of an emergency.

Even the most expert and skilled of us fail. But that failure is actually key to a prolonged success. Basketball player Michael Jordan summed it up thus: "I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I've been trusted to take the winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over again in my lift. And that is why I succeed."

Everyone begins a business expecting to work hard, provide a needed product or service and, in the very least, make a living, perhaps even provide for a family.

Most business agreements are drafted with that success in mind. There is nothing wrong with that. However, knowing that even the very best of us sometimes fail, and that only 10 percent of startup businesses succeed, it seems wise to not only plan to succeed, but also create a contingency plan in the event that things do not go as planned.

According to Fortune Magazine, the number one reason businesses fail is by producing a product nobody wants. The other top reasons are a lack of capital, having the wrong team and being outplayed by the competition.

Drafting agreements and contracts in a positive state of mind - but also with the knowledge and foresight that a myriad of things could negatively affect your goals - is quite frankly the best way to plan for success. It is, in short, having a fire safety ladder for your business.
